Who is Slim?
Born March 1989, Slim is the product of a single-family home. His mother did what she could to raise him right but there was only so much she could show and teach him. Nonetheless, he respectfully appreciated all she did for him. Although he didn’t have to he hit the streets on his quest to learn how to ‘be a man’. Armed with a modest education he embarked on his journey. Being in the streets taught many lessons most of which were hard. Slim now gives thanks to God for the fact that he is still alive and free. Run-in after run-in with the authorities over several years, he realized that he was on his way to becoming just another statistic just like his father and many of his ‘homies’ who were either strung out on drugs, in prison or dead. He realized this lifestyle wasn’t the answer. There had to be a better way.
Being a youth with a record made it even harder for him to straighten up and fly right, but he was determined to get his life in order. The state of the economy wasn’t helping the situation either, weeks turned into months but the elusive J.O.B. was hard to come by and equally hard to keep. Needs had to be met, responsibilities needed to be fulfilled. As things became harder he kept on pushing, trying to keep away from the things that would eventually take away his freedom. He started putting his thoughts about life on paper just to get it out of his system and maintain his focus on the new path he wanted his life to take. This soon opened the door to rapping and in doing so he tells his story, he tells of his trials and triumphs, his struggles to ‘be a man’… a better man. His lyrics are hard but to the point. Slim is forreal! Just listen to his lyrics and heed the messages embedded therein.
